Show Notes
In today’s episode, we hear part three of our interview with Dr. Tom Johnston. Pastor John asked Tom about mentoring Millennials and younger generations. Tom talked about “spiritual parentage” and also about what pastors need from their mentors.
Tom Johnston is the pastor of Trinity Life Community in Bedford NH. He’s also the Co-founder and Executive Director of the Praxis Center for Church Development, and President and Chief Educationist of the Trivium Institute.
Tom recommends two resources for you on our topic:
The Organic Reformation: A New Hope for the Church in the West by Tom Johnston and Mike Chong Perkinson – This book details the shift in the Church that must take place – and is already underway! The authors boldly advocate for a new reformation – a returning back to the simple teaching of Jesus – that will release again the revolutionary fire of the Church unleashed!
The Way of the Master: The Rabbinical Process of Jesus as an Adult Integrated Learning Methodology by Thomas Brian Johnston – An educational perspective on the rabbinic mentoring process of Jesus as applied to integrated learning. The thesis has a focus on establishing the principles and skill-sets embodied in the ministry of Jesus.
Tom Johnston and Mike Chong Perkinson also provide a helpful series of short videos each week called The Monday Mentor.
Many pastors realize the need for a consistent mentoring relationship after they are already suffering burnout or other problems in ministry.
